5 Reasons To Visit Watergate Bay

Posted on , updated on

Watergate Bay is not only home to our Ticket to Ride Surf School, but it’s also considered one of the best beaches around by many local residents. Here are a few reasons why we think it’s one of the best places to visit this summer.

Surfing

The beach here in Watergate Bay is two miles long at low tide and with that large a stretch it’s easy to get away from the crowds and find a quiet corner. Surfable at all stages of the tide it’s a fantastic place to learn to surf or if you’re already a confident surfer you can find some reeling peaks further to the north and south.
Westerly facing it’s a real swell magnet so even through the summer months you’re sure to find a surfable wave.

Lifeguarded through the summer months, be sure to swim in between the flags if you’re heading for a dip. If you’re looking for surf lessons or surf hire, get in touch for availability.

Bring the pets

Unlike some beaches, Watergate is dog friendly all year round!

We’re a big fan of our four legged friends and we know how important it is to be able to bring your furry companion on holiday with you.

Most of the local businesses are also dog friendly, if you’re looking for accommodation or food, the Watergate Bay Hotel and the Wax restaurant are very accommodating, so you’ll be safe in the knowledge your dog can come with you wherever you go in Watergate.

We just ask if you do bring your dog to the beach, please bring them to visit us too.

Park up for the day

If you’ve ever tried to visit one of the smaller cornish towns, you’ll know how hard it can be to find parking. In Watergate we don’t have that problem. There are 3 large car parks to choose from, all within 5 minutes walk of the beach. Bring change if possible, signal can be hard to come by down in the valley.

Food

Now you’ve parked, surfed and walked the dog you’ll be feeling hungry. Luckily there are some great food options nearby. Here are a few of our favourites.

Wax. Burgers, pizza, fish and chips. Perfect after surf hangout with a sundeck, conveniently right next to our Wavelength surf shop.

No.1 Cubs. The best coffee and cake in town, be sure to get there early for first choice of the pastries.

The Hangout. Perched atop the cliff, head up the coastal path for smoothie bowls, coffee and bacon baps!
